Information for Mangawhai Walking Weekend

Welcome to our 11 th annual weekend of enjoyment as we discover new places and make new friends.

Please read these notes carefully as they will make you familiar with expectations and ensure you feel familiar with the organization.

  • All walks are led by a leader who will remain in front at all times - walkers are to keep with the group and stay between the leader and the 'tail end Charlie'. All walkers meet at the Mangawhai Recreation Centre, which is adjacent to the Mangawhai Beach School, Insley Street, Mangawhai Village. Please be there at 8.45am on Saturday 28th. You are already registered so do not need to confirm attendance.
  • Walks have limited numbers so do not be disappointed if your first choice and second choice are not available; we will contact you and suggest alternative walks.
  • Carpooling will be organised for some of the walks; this is arranged on the day. Some walks include the cost of bus transportation.
  • This envelope includes Confirmation of your walks, information about what to bring, your nametags, breakfast tickets and other registration requirements. This means you do not have to register on arrival as all details have been recorded. Your guide will check your attendance when your walk begins. Make sure the contents of your envelope are accurate. Check. We do make the odd mistake. Put them in the car ready for the journey!
  • Go straight in to the Centre enjoy the aerobics on Saturday -suitable for all -  begins at 8.45am
  • We will have the welcome speech at 9.00am.
  • Then meet your guides under the sign for your walk so ready to depart at the due time. Please listen for any announcement from your guide concerning your walk
  • Your name will be on the list. Your guide will read out the names, state the risks involved in your walk then you are asked to sign the indemnity sheet before departure. Only the names registered may depart with the walk. Your name will be checked again at the end of the walk. No substitutes. We need to know exactly who is on each walk. No name will be added or deleted from the list after 5 th March.
  • Your guide must remain in the front of the group . Remember this is a country outing not a high-powered tramp. The tail end guide will remain last in the group. The leader will lead at a moderate walking pace.
  • Walks may be affected by rain but we will endeavour to provide an alternative should a walk be cancelled.
  • Unless stated sneakers or good (well worn in) walking shoes preferably boots are required.
  • Make sure you have booked for breakfast and have a little ticket stamped breakfast that should be enclosed in the envelope with this letter along with all the walk instructions. If you haven not booked for this ring me now. No gate sales. The spot on the name tag is for the Friday night.
  • Remember the camera. We do appreciate any photos sent to us after the event. They are put into the annual folder for all to see. We always need photos with people in them for the brochure and web page.
  • The Art Trail is co-ordinated by the local artists and is an established part of the weekend. Do take time to visit as many of the studios as you can if you haven't chosen to do the Art Trail Walk.
  • The Friday evening mix and mingle was hugely successful last year so do register for this event when you can meet your friends and guides before Saturday. A welcome drink and nibbles provided.

If you or your friends have not bought tickets for the Wine and Food Festival they can be bought at Bammas in the Village.

Book a restaurant for dinner. These can be selected from the web page  www.mangawhai.co.nz

We look forward to meeting you and anticipate a great weekend.

Yours truly,

Jean Goldschmidt  coordinator 09 4315096
